Rachel Boykin, LPC-R

Rachel Boykin is a Resident in Counseling, working toward her full licensure as an LPC in Virginia. When you meet Rachel, you will find a person who has the privilege and honor to combine her two strongest passions: counseling and helping others. You will see that Rachel’s counseling style is multimodal, incorporating several evidence-based techniques from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Solution-Focused Therapy. Rachel believes in authenticity, collaboration, and trust are integral for a working relationship with her clients. She is also a strong advocate for increasing awareness of multicultural competency and ethical standards within the counseling field. Rachel views counseling as a collaborative journey between a client and their counselor. She strives to provide a safe space for the client to problem solve current or past concerns where the client may feel stuck.

Before working at Tandem Mental Health Associates, Rachel has worked in a variety of roles within the mental health field, including residential group-home counselor, behavioral therapist, crisis intervention responder, college counselor, and career coach. Currently, Rachel is obtaining additional training to become a Certified Career Counselor. Rachel is an active member in the Association for Multicultural Counseling and Virginia Counselor’s Association.

Outside of the office, you will find Rachel enjoying a good book, widening her already large collection of tea, enhancing her culinary skills in the kitchen and furthering her knowledge on the practices of Mindfulness and meditation
